Press Release Body = Christmas is a holiday celebrated by all. Today people across
all borders - religious, national, and so forth embrace the Spirit of the Season as
a time of giving and sharing during this special time of the year.

A magnificent example of what this Spirit can accomplish is the true story of German
and British troops calling an unofficial Christmas Eve truce in 1914 during World
War I. The truce began on Christmas Eve, December 24 , 1914 . German troops ,
perhaps longing for bit of home, began decorating the area around their trenches in
the region of Ypres, Belgium , for Christmas . They placed candles on trees (a
European Tradition), and sang Christmas carols. Realizing what was going on the
British troops in the trenches across from them responded by singing the carols in
English.

The two sides continued the spontaneous festivities by shouting Christmas greetings
across the trenches to one another. Soon thereafter, there were calls for visits
across the \"No Man\'s Land \" where the only gifts they had to give -- whisky, cigars,
and such were exchanged. The artillery in the region fell silent that night as the
truce allowed the soldiers an opportunity to take a breather and reflect.

Christmas happily brings out the best in people; in us as well as in each other. In
a hurried world this season allows us the opportunity to think of others and give
the best we have to offer. At National Park Reservations we gladly take this time
to enjoy each others company as we take an evening away from the office for fun and
casual conversation. We humbly embrace the concept of Santa Claus as we participate
in programs around our valley that ensure that all children have a Merry Christmas.

All of us National Park Reservations wish you all a very happy and safe Holiday
Season!
